Beware of These Common Phrases Used by AI Models

Whether you’re a writer, teacher, journalist, or belong to any other profession, chances are that artificial intelligence has penetrated your profession! Generative AI is not going anywhere.

So, this leads us to the question on everyone’s minds: How can you avoid AI detectors while using AI tools? Although we answered this question in a previous blog, today, we’ll let you in on some trade secrets.

Chat-GPT Phrases to Avoid

According to a survey, the number of people using AI tools crossed the 250 million mark in 2023—more than double the number who used them in 2020. This makes it even more essential to create purely human-written content… or content that doesn't sound like Chat-GPT!

AI Detection in articles

But how can you ensure that your content is free from AI? Is there a certain way that AI-generated content sounds? As a leading AI detector, we believe that when something is written using Chat-GPT, you’ll know!

Chat-GPT and many other AI writing tools use advanced language models to ensure that the text produced sounds as human-like as possible. In fact, it is quickly becoming advanced, making it more human-like than ever before.

So, the real dilemma is how to produce content using AI writing tools and ensure that it sounds human. Here’s our answer to this dilemma. A comprehensive list of the most used Chat-GPT phrases that you should avoid!

AI Detection in articles

1. ‘Today’s Fast-Paced World/ Ever-evolving World’

Top of the list when it comes to AI-generated text is: ‘today’s fast-paced world,’ ‘ever-evolving world,’ or even ‘rapidly changing world.’ Chat-GPT tends to be a little heavy-handed on the adjectives. But with these familiar phrases, your content is over 100 times more likely to be flagged as AI-generated.

Instead of writing any of these adjectives, you could use the words ‘demanding’ or ‘breakneck.’

2. ‘In Conclusion/ In Summary’

Yes, you read it right. School has taught most of us to end any article or essay with ‘in conclusion,’ ‘to sum up,’ or ‘in summary.’ But, in the world of the internet, school’s got it all wrong!

This phrase is a red flag when it comes to AI-generated content and is considered too mechanical. Sometimes, ‘Conclusively’ or ‘To round up’ can also be considered non-human.

There are so many alternate options you can use instead. ‘In a nutshell,’ ‘cutting a long story short,’ and ‘cut to the chase’ are just some of them. You could also end by just reviewing everything that you wrote about and avoid these phrases altogether.

3. ‘Cutting-Edge/ Revolutionary’

If we had to list all the faults with Chat-GPT, at the number one spot would be: Chat-GPT seems to find everything ‘revolutionary,’ ‘cutting-edge,’ ‘remarkable,’ or ‘distinctive.’

We can vouch that, anytime you spot these phrases on the internet, they are going to be the outcome of an AI writing tool.

When you use any of these phrases, your content is 20 times more likely to be flagged as Chat-GPT generated. So, try replacing these terms with ‘new,’ ‘advanced,’ or ‘modern’…. Less is always more!

4. ‘Showcasing’

Unless you’re the marketing head of a large firm, work in the corporate sector, or the fashion industry, ‘showcasing’ is not a word you would use in everyday language. You or anyone else, for that matter!

The key to avoiding AI detectors is using straightforward, everyday language. Focus on writing how you would talk. Use ‘showing’ or ‘displaying’ instead. Much simpler and less cliched.

5. ‘Groundbreaking’

If you’re not talking about the start of a new construction project, ‘groundbreaking’ is a word to avoid! It is often used as a synonym for cutting-edge, innovative, and remarkable.

But its best to avoid any phrases which are not a part of daily jargon. Use ‘new,’ ‘creative,’ or ‘fresh’ instead.

6. ‘Delve’

We don’t want to sound like a broken record, but ‘delve’ is one of the reddest flags for AI-produced content ever. It even sounds off. Studies have shown that delve is one of the top most used words by Chat-GPT.

In fact, the use of ‘delve’ in the titles of articles or blogs and throughout the articles jumped during 2023. Surprise, surprise, this was the year Chat-GPT was released publicly.

Now, we really don’t want to ‘delve deeper’ into why this word sounds like AI, because there are so many other words that sound much more eloquent, such as ‘research,’ ‘dig,’ ‘probe,’ etc.

7. ‘Testament’

Unless you’re writing or speaking about something related to religion, we are pretty sure ‘testament’ is not going to be a word you use during a conversation. And you should not use it when writing for the internet! Chat-GPT tends to make everything sound formal, and in the process, there are certain words that it overuses… a lot.

The bright side is that you can probably avoid using this word with ease because there are several words you can replace it with! ‘Proof’ and ‘evidence’ are two examples.

8. ‘Tapestry’

Of all the words we have mentioned here, ‘tapestry’ is probably one of the most disliked ones. It’s used as a synonym for ‘tying things together’ or ‘combining things.’ Here at isgen, we think that Chat-GPT could definitely find a better synonym to use in its place.

There are probably 0 number of people who use this word in their regular speech. And you should avoid using it when writing blogs or articles for the internet, too.

9. ‘Play a Significant Role / Significantly Enhances’

Another set of phrases that AI criminally overuses are ‘play a significant role,’ ‘significantly enhance,’ or ‘play a crucial role.’

Although these phrases sound fine, the fact that Chat-GPT has used them so much is what makes it a problem if you use them, too. To be precise, they have been used almost 180 times more than other words! Try to avoid them at all costs if you don’t want your writing to be flagged down.

10. ‘It’s Important to Note/ Important to Consider’

This is another phrase that doesn’t really have anything wrong with it, but maybe it just sounds a little off-putting. Both these phrases are used to highlight something or draw attention to it, but is it really necessary to use them?

These phrases are basically filler or fluff, which don’t add value to the content and are used to reach the required word count.

Don’t get pulled into using this phrase. You can use other words such as ‘note,’ or ‘just a reminder.’

11. ‘Dynamic/ In the Dynamic World of..’

The word ‘dynamic’ seems to make everything sound more exciting and intriguing. Unfortunately, most chatbots feel the same way! If you come across an article or blog containing the phrase ‘in the dynamic world of’ it's definitely written by AI.

You can avoid using this word or phrase and replace it with ‘powerful,’ ‘energetic,’ or ‘lively.’

12. ‘Explore’

If you’ve written a lot of articles or blogs, you’re probably guilty of using the word ‘explore’ or the phrase ‘today, we’ll explore…,’ and ‘in today’s blog, we’ll explore…’. Don’t worry, you’re not the only one! Chatbots seem to adore these phrases, too.

The fact that ‘explore’ or ‘let’s explore’ is found in almost every other blog, makes it a top contender for AI-produced content. It’s best you leave this phrase in the past and move on.
